Paul Landl

• born in 1966 in Vienna; early interest in photography

• 1987-1991: training  with Viennese advertising photographers

• 1992-1997: photo reportages and advertising contracts in Middle and South America.

• 1997-to date: people and portrait photography in the USA, Africa, China and Turkey; various photographic works and advertising photography all over Europe

• since 1993:  own  studio in Baden near Vienna

• Now working as free-lance photographer all over Europe

• since 1997 focus on art photography, in particular with the aim of entering the border areas between photography and painting by the abstraction and alienation of objects, this way providing new insight into the ‘very soul of objects’; the rigid  artistic composition, emphasizing in particular the very important relationship between color and shape plays a major part here.

• These photographs are characterized by abstract, high-contrast but nevertheless straight contours.

• Also socio-critical topics with all their explosiveness are focused upon, dissected and then re-packaged for the observer.

• The main focus is on symbolic and symbolist photography as the expression of inner vision and a fantasy world. It ranges from theatrical rendition and absurd homage to the dual effect on perception.
